More Information

Yet, Sarah Connor is much more than just a successful pop star. Everything that Sarah does, she does it with passion, devotion, and heart and soul. In fact, one could easily summarize her career with just three words: singing, soul and sensuality. With these qualities, Sarah has turned many a music critic’s head, and many musicians and bands (such as TQ, Naturally 7 and the fantastic Wyclef Jean) have been keen to work with the “white lady with the black voice”. Her debut album in 2001 was titled “Green Eyed Soul” in deference to the 60s when R&B music performed by white artists was referred to as “blue-eyed soul”. Her standard live repertoire has always included songs such as “A Natural Woman” or “I Say A Little Prayer” and these serve as a tribute to her musical heroes.

On her new album, Sarah is revisiting the America of the 60s and 70s. Lost musical gems are presented next to classic soul numbers and nearly forgotten hymns. With versions of “I Never Loved A Man (The Way That I Love You)”, “Part Time Love” or “Your Precious Love”, she has chosen to interpret music from one of the most important eras in African American music.

Sarah and her team of producers have tackled these songs with utmost respect. All songs were recorded in Studio Saal 4 at the renowned Berliner Rundfunk. Top rate musicians, with credits ranging from James Brown to Lionel Richie to Erykah Badu to Joy Denalane and German hip-hop legends Die Fantastischen Vier, accompany Sarah on this album together with a 48-member symphony orchestra. Each track was performed live and “by hand” with no artificial computer sounds and no technical gimmickry. 40 years after their first recording, the songs were to retain their original outstanding character. Honest, pure and heartfelt.

With seeming effortlessness, Sarah enlivens the soul classics and truly makes them her own. When asked about her musical heroes, Sarah always names Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and the phenomenal Aretha Franklin.

Sarah has chosen her most cherished songs from these musical giants with a highly ambitious goal in mind: namely, to record a traditional soul record that is in tune with our times.
